마이크 펜스 부통령은 외부 전문가들의 참관 아래 미사일 시설을 폐쇄할 것이라는 김정은 북한 국무위원장의 약속을 환영한다고 밝혔습니다. 한반도 평화와 비핵화를 위한 진전이 계속 이뤄지고 있다고 강조했습니다. 김영남 기자가 보도합니다.
미국은 핵무기 없는 한반도에 지속적인 평화를 조성하려는 목표를 향해 진전을 거듭하고 있다고 펜스 부통령이 밝혔습니다.
[녹취: 펜스 부통령] “As the world saw this week, we continue to make progress toward our goal of forging a lasting peace on the Korean peninsula, free of nuclear weapons. As well aware recently KJU announced his commitment to allow nuclear inspections, subject to final negotiations, and offer to permanently dismantle a test site and launch pad in the presence of international observers.”
펜스 부통령은 20일, 최근 송환된 미군 유해 상자에 덮였던 성조기를 워싱턴 한국전쟁 기념공원에 전달하는 행사에서 이같이 말했습니다.
이어 최종 협상을 거쳐야겠지만 김정은이 최근 핵 사찰을 허용하고 국제사회의 참관 하에 미사일 실험장과 발사대를 영구히 해체하겠다는 약속을 했다고 말했습니다.
또한 트럼프 대통령은 이런 좋은 소식을 환영한다고 말했으며 추가적인 진전을 고대한다고 설명했습니다.
[녹취: 펜스 부통령] “As the President Trump said we welcome this good news. We look forward to further progress, and I can assure you, we will continue to work diligently to achieve peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, and we will never relent in our effort to bring our missing fallen home.”
아울러 미국은 한반도의 평화와 안정을 달성하기 위해 계속 열심히 일하고 (한국전쟁에서) 실종되거나 전사한 미군들을 집으로 데려오기 위한 노력을 절대 늦추지 않겠다는 점을 약속한다고 말했습니다.
아울러 트럼프 대통령은 6월 12일 싱가포르에서 역사적인 회담을 가졌고 김정은으로부터 한반도의 완전한 비핵화라는 약속을 받아냈다고 거듭 강조했습니다.
[녹취: 펜스 부통령] travel to historic summit in Singapore, North Korea leader Kim Jung-un, and as our President secured the commitment for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as I reflected that day at the ceremony, he also had our fallen on his heart. And President Trump secured the promise from KJU to return the remains of all our missing heroes from the Korean War.”
또한 트럼프 대통령은 미군 전사자들을 가슴에 품고 회담에 임했으며 김정은으로부터 한국전쟁에서 전사한 모든 미군 유해를 송환하겠다는 약속 역시 받아냈다고 덧붙였습니다.
