마이크 폼페오 국무장관은 9일 북한의 최종적이고 완전히 검증된 비핵화라는 궁극적인 목표를 달성하는 길이 보이게 됐다고 밝혔습니다.
[녹취: 폼페오 장관] “I returned late last night from North Korea from a trip where we made real progress. And while there’s still a long way to go and much work to do, we can now a see a path where we’ll achieve the ultimate goal which is the full and final verified denuclearization of North Korea.”
폼페오 장관은 이날 백악관에서 트럼프 대통령과 만난 뒤 기자들에게, 전날 진정한 진전을 이뤄낸 방북을 마치고 귀국했다며 이같이 말했습니다.
여전히 가야 할 길이 멀고 해야 할이 많이 남아 있지만 목표 달성을 향한 길이 보이게 됐다는 겁니다.
폼페오 장관은 김정은 위원장이 자신과 시간을 보낸 것에 감사하다며, 두 나라가 직면한 많은 현안들을 논의했다고 말했습니다.
[녹취: 폼페오 장관“I want to thank Chairman Kim for the time that I have gotten to spend with him, where we got to talk about all range of issue that are in front of our two countries that will lead us to get there. And he appreciated President having sent me and we will ensure the order to talk about when President will get a chance to meet with him and when will be the second summit.”
폼페오 장관은 김 위원장이 자신을 북한에 보낸 데 대해 트럼프 대통령에게 감사해 했다고 말했습니다.
