트럼프 “남북한, 비핵화 목표 표명 고무적…북한에 속지 않을 것”

도널드 트럼프 대통령은 한국과 북한이 한반도의 비핵화라는 목표를 표명한 것은 고무적이라고 밝혔습니다. 미-북 회담 장소는 2~3곳으로 압축됐다며 과거처럼 북한에 속지 않을 것이라고 강조했습니다. 김영남 기자가 보도합니다.

트럼프 대통령은 북한과의 역사적인 정상회담을 가진 한국을 축하한다며 문재인 대통령과 김정은이 한반도의 완전한 비핵화라는 목표를 표명한 것은 고무적이라고 밝혔습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “This afternoon I want to congratulate the Republic of Korea on its historic summit with North Korea we’re encouraged by President Moon and Kim Jung-Un’s expressed goal of complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. I will be meeting with Kim Jong-Un in the coming weeks - we look forward to that and hopefully it will be productive.”

트럼프 대통령은 27일 백악관에서 열린 앙겔라 메르켈 독일 총리와의 공동 기자회견에서 북한 문제를 언급하며 이같이 말했습니다.

이어 몇 주 후 김정은과 만날 것이라며 만남을 고대하며 생산적이기를 바란다고 설명했습니다.

트럼프 대통령은 한국 사람들뿐만 아닌 전세계 사람들의 밝은 미래를 위해 한반도 전체의 평화와 번영, 화합을 추구한다고 말했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “We seek a future of peace, prosperity and harmony for the whole Korean peninsula on locking not only a brighter future for the people of Korea but for the people of the world. However in pursuit of that goal, we will not repeat the mistake of past administrations. Maximum pressure will continue until denuclearization occurs. I look forward to our meeting - it should be quite something.”

하지만 이런 목표를 추구하는 과정에서 과거 행정부들의 실수를 반복하지 않겠다며 비핵화가 이뤄질 때까지 최대 압박은 계속될 것이라고 강조했습니다.

트럼프 대통령은 김정은과 직접 대화를 해봤느냐는 질문에 대해서는 답을 하지 않겠다며 매우 좋은 실무적인 관계를 갖고 있다고 말했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “I don’t want to comment on that, but we have a very good working relationship. We are setting up the meeting. Things have changed very radically from few months ago you know the name calling and a lot of many other things.”

아울러 현재 회담을 준비하고 있다며 서로 욕을 하는 것을 비롯해 많은 일이 있었던 몇 달 전과 비교해 상황이 매우 급변했다고 설명했습니다.

이어 지난 25년간 아주 실패한 사람들이 북한과의 협상 방법을 자신에게 설명하는 것을 볼 것이라는 사실에 쾌감을 느낀다고 말했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “We get a kick once in a while out of the fact that I will be watching people that failed so badly over the past 25 years explaining to me how to make the deal with North Korea. I get a big big kick out of that. But we are doing very well I think that something very dramatic could happen.”

현재 일들을 잘 진행하고 있으며 매우 극적인 일이 생길 수 있다고 생각한다는 겁니다.

또 북한은 현재 미국을 매우 존중하며 대하고 있다며, 문재인 한국 대통령은 너그럽게도 미국이 올림픽을 크게 성공시키는데 도움을 줬다고 말했다고 소개했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “They are treating us with great respect, and you know what is going on with South Korea and I think President Moon of South Korea was very generous in saying that we helped making Olympics a great success, because of the fact that there was a tremendous animosity, there was a tremendous problem going on, and all of the sudden, people started buying tickets because of whole different feeling when North said we would love to go to the Olympics.”

당시 매우 큰 적대감이 있었고 문제가 많았지만 북한이 올림픽에 참석하겠다고 하자 사람들이 입장권을 구매하기 시작했다는 겁니다.

트럼프 대통령은 오바마 대통령이 과거에 만났을 때 북한 문제가 가장 큰 문제라고 말했다며, 자신은 이 문제가 전임 행정부에서 해결됐기를 바랐다고 덧붙였습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “President Obama told me in the one meeting I had with him - he said that’s your biggest problem, that’s going to be the most difficult thing you have and honestly I wish it was handled earlier. I wish it were handled by another administration years ago. I’m not just talking about president Obama, I’d go back to any administration you want. But over the last 25 years, this should’ve been handled a long time ago.”

트럼프 대통령은 한국과 북한 문제를 해결하는 데 책임감을 느끼느냐는 질문에 책임감을 느낀다고 답했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “I think I have the responsibility. I think that other presidents should have done it. I think that the responsibility has fallen on the shoulder of the president of the United States.”

다른 대통령들이 했어야 하지만 이 문제를 해결하는 것은 미국 대통령의 책임이라는 겁니다.

이어 과연 할 수 있는 일인지 봐야 할 책임이 자신에게 있다며, 만약 할 수 없다면 많은 나라와 사람들에게 매우 힘든 시간이 될 것이라고 내다봤습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “I think that I have the responsibility to see if I can do it. And if I can’t do it, it will be very tough time for a lot of countries and a lot of people. It is certainly something that I hope that I can do for the world. This is beyond the United States, this is the world problem, and it is something that I hope I am able to do for the world.”

이는 미국만이 아닌 전세계의 문제이자, 자신이 세계를 위해 할 수 있는 일이길 바란다는 설명입니다.

트럼프 대통령은 이날 공동 기자회견에 앞서 기자들과 만난 자리에서도 북한 문제를 언급하며 북한과의 회담 장소가 두 곳에서 세 곳으로 압축됐다고 말했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “We’ll be setting up a meeting very shortly. We have it broken down two sites now-two or three sites, locations, and hopefully we’re going to have great success, we’ll see what happens.”

이어 위대한 성공을 하길 바란다며 어떻게 될지 지켜보자고 설명했습니다.

트럼프 대통령은 김정은이 과거처럼 미국을 상대로 장난치는 것 아니냐는 질문에 그렇지 않다고 생각한다고 답했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “Oh I don’t think he’s playing. No I don’t think he’s playing. And you know it’s never gone like this. It’s never gone this far. I don’t think it’s ever had this enthusiasm for somebody-for them for them wanting to make a deal. “

북한이 합의를 이뤄내기 위해 이렇게 열정적이었던 적이 없다는 겁니다.

그러면서도 미국은 과거 다른 성격의 지도자들이 있었기 때문에 놀아났다는 점에 동의한다고 말했습니다.

[녹취: 트럼프 대통령] “And yeah I agree the United States has been played beautifully like a fiddle because you had a different kind of leader. We’re not going to be played, okay? We’re gonna hopefully make a deal, if we don’t that’s fine. “

하지만 이제 미국은 놀아나지 않을 것이고 합의를 이뤄내길 바란다면서, 만약 그렇지 않다고 하더라도 괜찮다고 말했습니다.

트럼프 대통령은 과거 미국의 돈이 들어가고 약속을 맺은 다음 날 북한이 핵무기 (프로그램을) 다시 시작하는 것을 봐왔다며 이런 일은 일어나지 않을 것이라고 강조했습니다.
