캐나다와 일본 정상이 북한의 거듭된 탄도미사일 발사를 절대 용납할 수 없다고 강조했습니다. 캐나다 총리는 일본의 방위 능력 강화와 국방 예산 증액 결정에 대한 전적인 지지를 표명했습니다. 안소영 기자입니다.
기시다 후미오 일본 총리와 쥐스탱 트뤼도 캐나다 총리가 12일 캐나다 오타와에서 열린 정상회담을 통해 북한의 군사 도발에 대한 단호한 입장을 밝혔습니다.
양측은 회담 뒤 발표한 공동성명에서 “두 지도자는 빈도와 방식 모두에서 전례가 없는 북한의 탄도미사일 발사를 절대 용납할 수 없다는 데 의견을 같이하고 유엔 안전보장이사회 결의에 따라 북한의 완전한 비핵화를 위해 계속 긴밀히 협력할 것을 확인했다”고 밝혔습니다.
[공동성명] “The two leaders concurred that North Korea’s ballistic missile launches which are unprecedented both in their frequency and in their manner are absolutely unacceptable, and confirmed that they will continue to work closely together toward the complete denuclearization of North Korea in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions. They also confirmed that they will continue to cooperate in dealing with North Korea, including in addressing to illegal ship-to-ship transfers and the abduction issue.”
이어 “그들은 또한 불법적인 선박 간 환적과 납치 사안에 대한 대응 등 북한 문제를 다루는데 있어 계속 협력할 것을 확인했다”고 덧붙였습니다.
공동성명에 따르면 두 나라 정상은 중국을 둘러싼 문제에도 뜻을 함께하고 있다는 입장을 나타냈습니다.
[공동성명] “The two leaders strongly opposed unilateral attempts to change the status quo by force in the East and South China Seas, and confirmed to continue close coordination in addressing various issues related to China.”
두 지도자는 동중국해와 남중국해에서 무력으로 현상을 바꾸려는 일방적 시도에 강력히 반대했고, 중국과 관련된 여러 문제를 해결하는 데 있어 계속 긴밀히 공조할 것을 확인했습니다.
아울러 기시다 총리는 일본과 캐나다 모두 주요 7개국(G7) 회원국이고 자유와 민주주의, 인권, 보편적 가치를 공유하는 인도태평양 지역의 중요한 전략적 파트너라는 점을 강조하며 역내 및 국제사회의 평화와 안정을 유지, 강화하기 위해 캐나다와 협력할 것이라는 뜻을 밝혔습니다.
[공동성명] “Prime Minister Kishida expressed that he would like to collaborate with Canada to maintain and strengthen the peace and stability of the region and international community as Japan and Canada are both G7 members and Canada is an important strategic partner in the Indo-Pacific region that shares universal values such as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.”
기시다 총리는 또한 트뤼도 총리에게 지난달 일본이 반격 능력 보유를 비롯해 근본적으로 방위 역량을 강화하고 지난달 마련된 새 국가안보전략과 다른 보안 문서에 근거해 국방 예산을
증액하기로 결정했다고 설명했고, 이에 대해 트뤼도 총리도 전적인 지지를 표명했습니다.
[공동성명] “Prime Minister Kishida explained to Prime Minister Trudeau that Japan has decided to fundamentally reinforce its defense capabilities including the possession of a counterstrike capabilities and to increase its defense budget based on the new “National Security Strategy” (NSS) and other documents formulated last month, to which Prime Minister Trudeau gave his full support.”
기시다 총리는 또한 지난해 11월 발표된 캐나다의 “인도태평양 전략”을 환영하며, 이 전략이 지난해 10월 발표된 ‘자유롭고 개방적인 인도태평양 지역에 기여하는 일본 캐나다 행동계획’에 부합한다고 말했습니다.
[공동성명] “Prime Minister Kishida also welcomed Canada's announcement of the "Indo-Pacific Strategy" last November and stated that the Strategy is in line with the "Japan-Canada Action Plan contributing to a free and open Indo-Pacific region," which was announced last October. The Prime Minister expressed his intention to work together with Canada, a country strengthening its engagement in the Indo-Pacific region as a Pacific nation, toward the realization of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" through a steady implementation of the "Action Plan.”
기시다 총리는 행동 계획의 지속적인 이행을 통해 ‘자유롭고 개방적인 인도태평양 (FOIP)’을 실현하기 위해 태평양 국가로서 인도태평양 지역에 대한 관여를 강화하고 있는 캐나다와 협력할 것이라는 의지를 나타냈습니다.
