미-북 정상회담의 전제조건은 북한이 비핵화에 전념하는 것이라고 백악관이 밝혔습니다. 정상회담에서 인권 문제도 다뤄질 것으로 기대한다고 전했습니다. 김영남 기자가 보도합니다.
백악관은 트럼프 대통령과 문재인 한국 대통령이 생산적인 대화를 나눴다며 미-북 정상회담 일정을 비롯한 중요한 사안들을 논의했다고 밝혔습니다.
[녹취: 새라 샌더스 대변인] “As you know the president has just concluded a productive meeting with South Korean president Moon, this was the six visit between them, the two leaders had significant conversations on the important issues including the schedule of U.S.-North Korea summit. Those leaders are committing to working together to accomplish the common goal of the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.”
새라 샌더스 백악관 대변인은 22일 정례브리핑에서 두 정상이 한반도의 완전한 비핵화라는 공동의 목표를 달성하기 위해 함께 노력하고 있다고 강조했습니다.
샌더스 대변인은 미-북 회담 성사 가능성을 99%라고 설명한 한국 측 관계자의 발언에 동의하느냐는 질문에, 트럼프 대통령이 앞서 말했듯 어떤 일이 일어날지 지켜볼 것이라고 답했습니다.
[녹취: 새라 샌더스 대변인] “The president has addressed this earlier directly to you and said that we will see what happens. We continue to prepare for the summit, and if they want to meet, we will certainly be ready, and the president I think rightly stated that if North Korea agrees to denuclearize that it can be a bright future for them, but we remain clear eyed in this negotiations but we continue to prepare and we will see what happens.”
이어 미국은 계속 미-북 회담을 준비하고 있다며 북한이 만나고 싶다면 미국은 준비가 돼 있을 것이라고 설명했습니다.
아울러 트럼프 대통령이 정확하게 언급했듯 북한이 비핵화에 동의한다면 이들에게 밝은 미래가 있을 수 있다고 강조했습니다.
또 미국은 이 협상 과정에서 냉정을 유지하고 있다면서도 (회담을) 계속 준비할 것이고 어떤 일이 일어날지 지켜볼 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
샌더스 대변인은 미-북 회담을 위한 전제조건이 무엇인지 묻는 질문에 트럼프 대통령이 보고 싶어하는 것은 북한이 비핵화에 전념하는 것이고 이런 점에는 변화가 없다고 답했습니다.
[녹취: 새라 샌더스 대변인] “The president has laid out what he wants to see is the commitment to denuclearization and that has not changed.”
샌더스 대변인은 인권 유린 범죄자이자 최근 한 명의 미국인 대학생의 죽음에 책임이 있는 김정은에게 안전 보장을 어떻게 할 수 있느냐는 지적에, 이번 대화를 통한 미국의 목표와 목적은 한반도의 완전하고 전체적인 비핵화를 이뤄내는 것이라는 기본적 입장을 되풀이했습니다.
[녹취: 새라 샌더스 대변인] “Again the goal and the purpose of these conversations is to have complete and total denuclearization of the peninsula. And the President has been upfront about that part of the conversation and we’re going to continue to move forward.”
트럼프 대통령은 이를 솔직하게 밝히고 있으며 미국은 계속 나아갈 것이라는 설명입니다.
샌더스 대변인은 미-북 회담이 열린다면 북한의 인권 문제가 다뤄질 것이냐는 질문에 트럼프 대통령과 김정은이 가질 대화에 대해 앞서나가지 않겠다면서도 이 문제가 제기되고 언급될 것으로 기대한다고 답했습니다.
[녹취: 새라 샌더스 대변인] “I’m not going to get ahead of the discussion that President and Kim Jong Un could have. But certainly we would expect that, that would come up and be addressed.”
샌더스 대변인은 트럼프 대통령이 미-북 대화 준비를 어떻게 하고 있느냐는 질문에 알다시피 대통령은 이날 문재인 한국 대통령과 만난 것에서 알 수 있듯이 전세계 지도자들과 직접 만나거나 전화로 많은 대화를 나눈다고 설명했습니다.
[녹취: 새라 샌더스 대변인] “As you all know he’s spent a significant amount of time meeting both in person and having regular phone conversations with other world leaders like you saw today with South Korean President Moon. As well as he has constant and regular meeting with his national security team. This is something they talk about on the daily basis and will continue to in preparation.”
이어 트럼프 대통령은 국가안보 당국자들과 꾸준히 만나고 있다며 (미-북 회담 문제는) 이들이 매일 논의하는 문제이고 준비과정에서 계속 이렇게 해나갈 사안이라고 설명했습니다.
샌더스 대변인은 미-한 정상회담에서 주한미군 문제가 논의됐느냐는 질문에 자신이 참여했던 만남에서는 논의되지 않았다며, 예정된 미-북 회담 준비에 초점이 맞춰졌다고 답했습니다.
