유엔 안전보장이사회는 비공개회의를 열고 압하지아 자치공화국 상공에서 그루지아 무인정찰기가 격추된 사건에 관해 논의했습니다. 그루지아는 압하지아 상황을 둘러싸고 러시아와의 긴장이 고조되고 있는 가운데 30일 안보리 회의를 요청했습니다.
이보다 앞서 지난 26일, 유엔은 보고서를 통해, 지난 4월20일 압하지아 상공에서 무인정찰기가 격추된 사건에 러시아가 책임이 있다고 지적했습니다.
러시아는 보고서 내용을 부인하면서 압하지아 분리주의 반군의 소행이라고 주장했습니다. 그루지아는 러시아의 사과와 무선정찰기에 대한 피해 보상을 요구하고 있습니다.
유엔 보고서는 또한 그루지아가 무선정찰기를 압하지아에 보낸 것은 그루지아 군과 압하지아 분리주의 반군 사이의 휴전 협정을 위반한 것이라고 지적했습니다.

The U.N. Security Council has met behind closed doors to discuss the shooting down of a Georgian unmanned reconnaissance aircraft over the breakaway republic of Abkhazia.
Georgia requested today's (Friday's) meeting amid increasing tensions with Russia over the Abkhazian situation. Monday, a U.N. report found that Russia was responsible for shooting down the drone over Abkhazia on April 20th.
Russia has denied the claim and insists that Abkhazian separatists downed the aircraft. Georgia has demanded a Russian apology, and compensation for the drone. The U.N. report also criticized Georgia for sending drones into the area as a violation of a cease-fire between Georgian forces and Abkhazian separatists.
Meanwhile, Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb met in Helsinki with his Georgian counterpart Eka Tkeshelashvili for talks on the situation. Finland currently holds the rotating chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.
