홍콩의 민주화 촉구 연례 시가 행진 참가자들이 지난해보다 훨씬 더 많이 늘어난 것으로 알려졌습니다.
경찰 당국은 1일의 시가 행진에 약 2만 8천명 정도가 참가했다고 밝혔지만 주최측은 5만 8천여명이 참가했다고 말했습니다. 홍콩 대학의 조사 보고서는 3만 6천명에서 4만 3천명 가량이 참가했다고 발표했습니다.
일부 홍콩 언론은 이 같은 수치는 직접 선거를 여전히 강력하게 원하고 있는 홍콩인들의 일반 정서를 보여주는 것이라고 말하고 있습니다.

The turnout for Hong Kong's annual protest march for greater democracy was considerably higher than last year.
Organizers say 58-thousand people joined the march Saturday, although police put the figure at 28-thousand. A University of Hong Kong survey says the turnout was between 36-thousand and 43-thousand.
Any of the estimates show that participation was up sharply from last year.
Some Hong Kong media say the turnout indicates that public aspirations for direct elections remain strong.
Hong Kong's government responded to the march by saying it understands the public's aspirations, and is determined to promote democratic development in accordance with the territory's constitution (the Basic Law).
