India's petroleum minister says he will sign an agreement in Beijing later this week calling for cooperation on energy projects between India and China. The signing ceremony will be held during two days of talks that begin Wednesday. Indian officials say the deal between India and China will include joint oil-exploration projects and other energy-related matters.
India and China have aggressively competed against each other for overseas oil and gas assets. This week, India dropped out of the bidding for a large stake in a Nigerian oil field -- a multibillion-dollar prize that China's largest oil producer (China National Overseas Oil Company) won on Monday. India's foreign secretary (Shyam Saran) is currently in Beijing.
China's foreign ministry says the two nations will hold negotiations on their disputed border in India in late February.
