웬디 셔먼 국무부 부장관이 15일 모리 다케오 일본 외무성 사무차관과 전화통화를 하고 북한의 대륙간탄도미사일(ICBM) 발사를 비난했습니다.
네드 프라이스 국무부 대변인은 이날 보도자료에서 “셔먼 부장관과 모리 사무차관은 오늘 ICBM 발사를 포함한 북한의 도발 행위를 규탄하고, 한국과의 3자 안보 협력의 중요성을 강조했다”고 밝혔습니다.
[프라이스 대변인] “Deputy Secretary Sherman and Vice Minister Mori condemned the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) provocative actions, including today’s deeply concerning ICBM launch, and asserted the importance of expanding trilateral security cooperation with the ROK.”
또한 “셔먼 부장관은 일본과 한국 정부가 지난 3월 6일 발표를 통해 자유롭고 개방적인 인도태평양에 공헌한 것을 환영했다”며 “셔먼 부장관은 일본과 한국이 새로운 상호 이해를 지속적인 진전으로 전환하기 위한 조치를 취하는 데 대한 미국의 지지를 재확인했다”고 덧붙였습니다.
[프라이스 대변인] “Deputy Secretary Sherman welcomed the contributions made towards a free and open Indo-Pacific by the Governments of Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) through their March 6 announcements. She reaffirmed the United States’ continued support for Japan and the ROK as they take steps to translate this new understanding into enduring progress.”
프라이스 대변인은 “셔먼 부장관이 우크라이나에 대한 일본의 지원, 특별히 사회기반시설을 겨냥한 러시아의 계속된 공격으로 인한 에너지 부문의 긴박한 필요와 관련해 모리 사무차관에게 감사를 표했다”고 전했습니다.
[프라이스 대변인] “The Deputy Secretary thanked Vice Minister Mori for Japan’s support for Ukraine, especially as it relates to urgent energy sector needs caused by Russia’s continued attacks on infrastructure. The two underscored their commitment to cooperating through the Quad and affirmed that the Australia-United Kingdom-United States (AUKUS) security partnership would promote a free and open Indo-Pacific. They also discussed the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and recommitted to cooperation during Japan’s G7 presidency and the U.S. APEC host year.”
이어 “양측은 쿼드(4개국 안보협의체)를 통해 협력하겠다는 약속을 강조하고, 호주와 영국, 미국의 안보 동맹 ‘오커스’의 안보 파트너십이 자유롭고 개방적인 인도태평양을 촉진할 것이라는 점도 확언했다”고 프라이스 대변인은 밝혔습니다.
그러면서 “두 차관은 타이완 해협의 평화와 안정의 중요성에 대해 논의했으며, 올해 일본이 주요7개국(G7) 의장국을 맡고 미국이 아시아태평양∙경제협력체(APEC)를 주최하는 동안 협력을 거듭 약속했다”고 덧붙였습니다.
