should는 제안이나, 다정하게 충고할 때 사용합니다. 예를들면, You should apply for that job. 당신은 그 직장에 지원해야 해요. You should try that new restaurant. 당신은 그 새 식당에 가봐야해요.

OUGHT TO

ought to도 충고할 때 쓰는 말입니다. should와 의미는 비슷하지만, 그렇게 자주 쓰이진 않습니다.

특정 조동사들을 영어학습자들이 이해하기 어렵다는 걸 아셔야 돼요.

Ought to is another modal for giving advice.

Ought to는 충고할때 쓰는 또 다른 조동사입니다.

HAD BETTER

Had better is stronger than should and ought to.

had better는 should와 ought to보다 의미가 강합니다.

Had better carries an indirect threat.

Had better은 간접적인 위협을 포함합니다.

충고에 따르지 않으면 나쁜 일이 일어날 것을 예고하는 거죠. 즉, 위협하는 겁니다.

Unless you want to lose a grammar fan, you had better start teaching more about modals.

문법 팬을 한 명 잃기 원하지 않는다면, 조동사에 대해 더 많이 가르치기 시작하시는 게 좋을 겁니다.

참고로, 'had'는 자주 생략됩니다. 그래서 'you better...' 형태로 '...하는 게 좋을 것'이라는 문장이 구성되는데요. 거칠게 들리죠? 하지만 이렇게 위협이나 압박에 관한 표현 만은 아닙니다. ‘긴급’을 표현할 때도 had better를 씁니다.
