안녕하세요 English with Yoo! 의 Jennifer Yoo입니다. English with Yoo!

I’ll give you a daily introduction to some meaningful and useful everyday English words and phrases! So let’s get started today!

Previously I mentioned that I attended a candidate’s night where Mitt Romney’s two sons Ben and Josh Romney made a surprise visit right?

Let’s hear what Josh Romney had to say about his father, Mitt Romney, at this candidate’s night.

turn things around / turn (something) around

Josh Romney: When we discussed running for president again, my brothers and I were not really excited about it. We knew how hard it would be and knew what it would entail but the thing my mom brought up convinced us all that we had to do it was the economy. She asked “Mitt, can you turn the economy around?” And he said “Yes, I think I’m the only one running for president who knows how to do it.” And she said, “Well, you don’t have a choice you have to run for the president.”

그렇지만 어머님께서는 아버지에게 "정말 미국 경제를나아지게 할수있으면 if he can turn the economy around 당연히 출마해야지"라고 했다고 합니다.

turn (something) around means to make changes for the better; to take a turn for the better, to make improvements.

Let’s listen to the conversation again.
