Iran Vows Retaliation for Any Attacks on its Nuclear Sites - 2005-02-06

The head of Iran's national security council says Iran will retaliate, and increase its push to master nuclear technology, if the United States or Israel attacks its nuclear facilities.

Hassan Rohani also tells Reuters news agency there is nothing Western governments can offer to persuade Iran to end its uranium enrichment program.

Mr. Rohani said talks with European envoys that resume Tuesday in Geneva should focus solely on Iran giving guarantees it will not divert uranium enrichment to a military program.

The United States has accused Iran of enriching uranium to develop nuclear weapons, while Tehran insists its nuclear ambitions are peaceful. President Bush says he has not ruled out the use of force to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Mr. Rohani says Iran would simply rebuild whatever may be destroyed in any attack.
