Large Weapons Cache Discovered in Iraq City of Fallujah - 2004-11-25

The U.S. military in Iraq says it has uncovered an enormous stockpile of weapons and explosives stored in a mosque in the restive city of Fallujah.

The military today (Thursday) called it the "largest weapons cache" ever found in the city.

The discovery came as Iraqi troops searching for suspected terrorist hideouts in Fallujah uncovered an apparent chemical bomb factory. Iraqi officials say the laboratory was used to make toxic substances and contained pamphlets on manufacturing anthrax.

In another development, the U.S. State Department announced that an agency employee (James Mollen) had been murdered in the Iraqi capital. The group of wanted terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for the murder on an Islamist website.

Meanwhile, Iraqi officials said they have arrested a top lieutenant of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (identified as Abu Saeed) in Mosul.

And in Samarra, north of Baghdad, two people were killed in car bomb attacks.
