한국과 일본 미국의 북핵 협상 대표들은 베이징에서 8일 오후 공식 개최될 마지막 6자 회담에서 진전이 이루어질 것이라는데 대해 별로 낙관하지 않고 있습니다.
이들 3개국 특사들은 중국과 북한 러시아 협상 대표들과 8일 6자 회담을 재개하기에 앞서 7일 베이징에서 만났습니다. 이번 6자 회담에서는 북한의 핵 활동을 검증할 방법을 둘러싸고 합의를 도출해내기 위한 노력을 펼치게 될 것입니다.
한국의 김숙 한반도평화교섭 본부장은 이번 회담에 대해 별로 낙관하지 않는다고 말한 한편으로 사이키 아키타마 일본 외무성 아시아 대양주 국장은 북한과 다른 나라들 사이에 여전히 큰 의견 차이가 남아있다고 지적했습니다.
앞서 5일 북핵 6자 회담 미국측 수석대표인 크리스토퍼 힐 국무부 차관보는 이번 회담이 난항을 겪을 것으로 보인다고 말했습니다.
미국과 한국, 일본은 국제 핵사찰단원들이 북한의 핵 시설들에서 시료를 채취할 수 있도록 북한이 허용하길 원하고 있습니다.

Nuclear envoys from South Korea, Japan and the United States are downplaying hopes of progress at a new round of North Korean disarmament talks in Beijing.
The three envoys met today (Sunday)in the Chinese capital ahead of the talks, which begin Monday with negotiators from China, North Korea and Russia. The six parties are trying to work out how North Korea will verify its nuclear activities.
South Korean envoy Kim Sook says he is "not optimistic" about the talks, while Japanese envoy Akitaka Saiki says a "big gap" remains between North Korea and the other countries.
U.S. envoy Christopher Hill said Friday that he expects the talks to be difficult. The United States, South Korea and Japan want the North to let international inspectors take samples from nuclear sites to verify disarmament.
