아시아와 유럽 정상들은 25일 베이징에서 열린 이틀간의 정상회담에서 전세계 경제를 대대적으로 재점검하기로 다짐했습니다.
아시아유럽 정상회의 ASEM에 참석한 40개국 정상들은 공동성명을 발표하고 효과적이고 복합적인 통화와 금융체계 개혁을 단행할 것을 다짐했습니다.
중국의 원자바오 총리는 이번 정상회담 중 중국은 많은 나라들이 전세계적인 경제위기에 대처하기 위해 조치를 취하는 것을 보게돼서 기쁘다고 말하고, 하지만 더 많은 노력이 이뤄져야 한다고 말했습니다. 그는 현재의 위기에서 교훈을 배워야한다며, 금융체제에 더 엄격한 조치를 취할 것을 촉구했습니다.
이와 동시에 조지 부시 대통령도 모든 국가들이 전세계적인 경제회복에 인내심을 갖고 금융시장 개방 정책에 대한 재결의를 다져야 한다고 강조했습니다.
부시 대통령은 25일 주례 라디오 연설을 통해 지금과 같은 경제적 불확실성의 순간에 이른바 번영과 희망을 만들어내는 증명된 방법인 개방 정책을 거부하는 것은 잘못된 것이라고 말했습니다.
부시대통령은 금융위기를 논의 하기 위해 오는 11월 15일 워싱턴에서 20개국가 정상들이 참석하는 정상회담을 주최합니다. 이 회담에는 주요 산업 선진국들과 중국, 인도 , 브라질과 같은 주요 신흥 부유국가들이 참석합니다.

Asian and European leaders vowed to
overhaul the global economy Saturday at the close of a two-day summit in
Beijing.
In a joint statement, the 40 members of the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM)
pledged to undertake "effective and comprehensive reform" of monetary
and financial systems.
During the meeting, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said China is glad to see
countries taking measures to cope with the worldwide financial crisis, but that
more needs to be done. He called for stricter regulation of the systems, saying
lessons must be learned from the current crisis.
At the same time, U.S. President George Bush urged nations to be patient with a
global economic recovery and recommit themselves to policies that keep
financial markets open.
During his weekly radio address Saturday, Mr. Bush said this moment of economic
uncertainty is the wrong time to reject such policies, which he called
"proven methods for creating prosperity and hope."
Mr. Bush will host a Group of 20 summit on the financial crisis in Washington
on November 15th. The G-20 includes major industrialized nations and key
emerging-market countries like China, India and Brazil.
