I'd like to travel through Alabama.
We traveled through Alabama on our way down to Florida.
리오라 선생님의 별장, 콘도가 있는 플로리다 'Panama City'까지 가는 길에 앨러바마 주를 통과해서 가셨군요.
Alabama 주는 Louisiana, Mississippi 주 등과 함께 Deep South 라고 해서 아주 남부 깊숙한 곳에 자리 잡고 있지요.
자동차를 운전해서 갔나요?
Yes, we drove our car.
We left Georgia, Atlanta Georgia, and drove through Alabama and went through some very beautiful country and pretty pretty southern towns in Alabama.
(네, 차를 운전해서 갔어요. 애틀랜타 주의 조지아를 출발해서 Alabama 주를 통과해서 갔어요. Alabama 주에 있는 아주 아름다운 시골과 정말로 아름다운 남부 마을을 거쳐 갔습니다.)
It's about a 5 hour drive leaving from Atlanta to Panama City Beach, Florida, and most of the trip is really through Alabama.

Yes, we do.
One of the things that we like to do as we're traveling in the south and especially Alabama we like to stop at a famous restaurant called 'Waffle House'.
(네, 그렇습니다. 저희가 남부 지역, 특히 Alabama 를 여행하면서 즐기는 것들 중 한 가지는 'Waffle House'라는 유명한 음식점에 들르는 일입니다.)
And there's quite a few Waffle House restaurants that can be found in Alabama and in the south.

And they're kind of a down-home dinner type restaurant.

It's a very big chain in the south.
And I read a little bit about the history of Waffle House.

And there's some well-known facts about the Waffle House restaurants.

First of all, the restaurants are open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. Waffle House doors have no locks.

They're always open. They're never closed.

One of their famous things that they serve is something well known for their hash browns, hash brown potatoes.
(잘 알려진 것들 중 하나는 해시브라운 감자가 있습니다.)
감자를 잘게 썰어서 노릇노릇 볶은 것을 'hash brown'이라고 하지요.
And their pecan waffles are their specialty also.
(그리고 피칸 와플이 특별한 음식입니다.)
And the other thing that they are famous for is grits.
(그리고 또 유명한 것은 옥수수죽입니다.)
옥수수를 갈아서 만든 죽인데, 싸라기죽 같은 느낌이 나는 음식입니다.
It's very famous in the south.

It's known for its big yellow sign.

They're are more prevalent in the south. But they have sprung up all over the United States and keep growing.
남부지역에 주로 많습니다. 그렇지만 미국 전역에 우후죽순처럼 생겨나서 계속 성장하고 있습니다.

That restaurant offers a variety of delicious foods.

There's some famous towns we went through on our way down to Florida.
(플로리다로 내려가는 길에 저희가 지나갔던 마을 중에 유명한 마을들이 몇 있습니다.)
And the first one that I'd like to talk about is called Dothan, Alabama.
(제가 말씀 드리고 싶은 첫번째 마을은 Alabama 주의 Dothan이라는 곳입니다.)
And Dothan is a pretty famous area in Alabama.
(Dothan은 Alabama 에서 무척 유명한 곳입니다.)
It's not a real big city, but there's a famous singer that came from Dothan, Alabama.
(아주 큰 도시는 아니지만 그 곳 출신의 유명한 가수가 있습니다
And you might remember hearing him sing.
(그가 노래 부르는 걸 들어본 기억이 있을지도 모르겠습니다.)
It's 'Bobby Goldsboro,' and he had a top hit in the 1960's, and the song was "Honey".
('Bobby Goldsboro'라는 가수 인데 1960년대 가장 유행했던 곡은 'Honey'였습니다.)
In the South, a lot of the areas grew cotton.
(남부에서는 많은 지역에서 목화를 길렀습니다.)
But the 1920s and 1930s, there was a very bad disaster.
(그렇지만 1920년대와 1930년대에 아주 심한 재앙을 겪었습니다.)
There was something called boll weevil that destroyed most of the cotton crops. And that was the livelihood for the people in the south.

But these boll weevil disease spread through the south and destroyed their crops.

So they had to come out with new crop. So they came up with peanuts.
