양제츠 중국 외교부장은 이 날 인도의 프라납 무크세르지 외무부 장관, 만모한 싱 총리와 회담을 갖기 위해 8일 수도 뉴델리에 도착했습니다. 양 외교부장은 3일간의 일정으로 7일 인도에 도착했습니다.
양 외교부장은 이 날 회담에 앞서 콜카타에서 기자들에게 핵 관련 주제에 대한 논평을 거절했습니다.
양 외교부장은 대신 인도의 부상을 높이 평가하며 양국은 지역 평화를 위해 협력할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

China and India have begun high-level talks aimed at
improving strategic relations following recent criticism from India that
Beijing had been unwilling to support New Delhi's nuclear ambitions.
Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi arrived in New Delhi today (Monday) for
talks with his Indian counterpart, Pranab Mukherjee, and Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh. The talks are part of Yang's three-day visit to India, which
began Sunday.
Yang declined to comment on the nuclear issue during remarks to reporters in
Kolkata ahead of today's meetings. Instead, he praised the rise of India and
said the two countries should work together to bring peace to the region.
India has criticized Beijing for attempting to block an agreement that was
reached on Saturday to end a nuclear trade ban on New Delhi.
Several countries had expressed concerns about lifting the ban because India has
not signed a nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
