유엔은 19일 5년 전 이라크 수도 바그다드 주재 유엔본부에 대한 폭탄테러로 숨진 22명을 추모했습니다.
반기문 유엔 사무총장은 이날 뉴욕에서 열린 추모식에서 유엔 사무소가 있는 바그다드의 카날 호텔에서 사망한 유엔 직원들은 "진정한 영웅들"이었다고 말했습니다.
지난 2003년 폭탄테러로 숨진 사망자들 가운데는 세르지오 비에이라 드 멜로 유엔 특사가 포함돼있으며 당시 150명 이상이 부상했습니다.
반 총장은 희생자 유족들과 생존자들이 참석한 추모식에서 유엔 직원들의 안전과 안보를 개선할 것을 약속했습니다.

The United Nations has paid tribute to the 22 people killed in a bomb attack on U.N. headquarters in Iraq five years ago.
In New York today (Tuesday), Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said those killed at Baghdad's Canal Hotel in were "true heroes."
The top U.N. envoy to Iraq, Sergio Vieira de Mello, was among those who died in the bombing. More than 150 people were wounded.
Mr. Ban spoke at a solemn ceremony, which included family members of the victims as well as survivors of the attack.
He also underscored the risks U.N. workers take, and reiterated a pledge to improve safety and security.
A separate ceremony took place at the United Nations' European headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
