아프간 내무부는 이날의 치안 병력 동원은 지난 2001년 탈레반 정권이 축출된 이래 최대 규모라고 밝혔습니다.

정부 관계자들은 아프가니스탄이 89년 전 영국으로부터 독립한 것을 경축하는 18일의 독립절 행사는 전년도에 비해 작은 규모로 치러질 것이라고 말했습니다.
탈레반 무장요원들은 지난 4월 카불에서 진행된 주요 행진을 관람하던 하미드 카르자이 대통령과 고위 정부 관리들을 향해 총격을 가했었습니다. 카르자이 대통령은 당시의 암살기도를 모면했지만, 다른 3명은 현장에서 숨졌습니다.

At least five thousand police are patrolling the Afghan capital, Kabul, on the eve of the country's Independence Day.
The Interior Ministry described today's (Sunday's) security operation as the biggest in Kabul since the fall of the Taliban government in 2001.
The ministry said the measures aim to create an environment of trust and disrupt potential threats.
Officials say Monday's celebration marking Afghanistan's independence from Britain 89 years ago will be smaller than in previous years.
Militants disrupted the last major parade held in Kabul in April, by shooting at the stage where President Hamid Karzai, senior officials and diplomats were sitting.
Mr. Karzai survived the assassination attempt, but three other people were killed.
