레바논과 시리아는각기 프랑스로 부터 독립한지 60여년 만에 처음으로 외교관계를 공식 수립하고 서로 대사를 파견하기로 합의했습니다.
시리아정부의 부타이나 샤반 고문은바샤르 알 아사드 시리아 대통령과 현재 다마스커스를 방문중인 레바논의 미셸 술레이만 대통령이 13일 이같은 결정을 내렸다고 밝혔습니다.
레바논의 술레이만 대통령은 양국간 관계 강화를 위해 이틀 일정으로 시리아를 방문중입니다.
시리아 관영 티쉬린 신문은 슐레이만 대통령의 이번 방문을 크게 환영하며 이번 방문이 지난 날의 과오를 잊고상호 존중에 바탕을 둔 두 나라간 외교관계를 구축할 절호의 기회라고 보도했습니다.
시리아와 레바논 양국 모두 한 떄 프랑스의 식민지 였으며 지금까지 한 번도 공식적 외교관계를 수립한 적이 없습니다.

Syrian officials say Lebanon and Syria have agreed to establish diplomatic ties and exchange ambassadors for the first time since the two countries gained independence more than 60 years ago.
A Syrian government adviser (Buthaina Shaaban)says President Bashar al-Assad and his visiting Lebanese counterpart, Michel Suleiman, made the decision during talks today (Wednesday)in Damascus. She says the two leaders instructed their foreign ministers to take the necessary measures to carry out the new agreement.
President Suleiman arrived in Syria todayfor a landmark two-day trip aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.
The state-owned Syrian newspaper "Tishrin" hailed the visit as a chance to overcome past mistakes by establishing relations based on mutual respect.
Syria and Lebanon, both former French colonies, have never had formal diplomatic ties, but announced in July that they would open embassies in their respective countries.
