Taiwan's ruling party chief is meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing, establishing the highest level contact between the island and the mainland in decades.
Chinese state media broadcast pictures of the president meeting today (Wednesday) with Wu Po-hsiung, the head of Taiwan's ruling Nationalist Party.
On Tuesday, Wu met China's top political adviser, Jia Qinglin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party's Politburo.
Chinese state media quoted Jia as saying Taiwan's Nationalist Party should take advantage of the historic opportunity to open a new chapter in cross-strait relations.
Wu is Taiwan's first ruling party chief to visit the mainland. He and his 16-person delegation arrived in China Monday.
