인권단체 ‘바하이 국제공동체’는 이란 당국이 지난 14일 바하이 지도자 여섯 명의 자택을 급습해 이들을 모두 체포했다고 말했습니다. 이란은 지난 1983년 바하이교를 불법단체로 규정했습니다.

The U.S. State Department has condemned Iran's detention of the country's entire Bahai leadership.
The Bahai International Community says Iranian authorities arrested six Bahai leaders in Tehran Wednesday in early morning raids on their homes. It says the five men and one woman (Jamaloddin Khanjani, Afif Naeimi, Saeid Rezaie, Behrouz Tavakkoli, Vahid Tizfahm and Fariba Kamalabadi) were taken to Tehran's Evin prison.
A State Department spokesman (Sean McCormack) said Thursday that the arrests violate Iran's international commitments to respect religious freedoms.
Human rights groups say a seventh Iranian Bahai leader (Mahvash Sabet) has been in detention since early March in the northeastern city of Mashhad. The seven detainees belong to a group that coordinates the activities of Iran's Bahai community.
The State Department is urging Iran to release all Bahais currently in detention and to stop harassing the religious minority.
Iran banned all formal Bahai institutions in 1983. Many Iranian Muslims consider Bahais to be heretics.
