미군 수송기가 버마의 태풍 이재민들을 돕기 위한 구호물자를 싣고 버마의 옛 수도 랑군에 오늘 도착했습니다.
물과 모기장 담요 등을 싣고 태국의 공군기지에서 출발한 미군 수송기 C-130은 열흘 전 태풍 나르기스가 버마를 강타한 뒤 버마 군사 정부가 버마 영공 진입을 허가한 첫번째 미군 구호물자 수송기입니다.
미군 수송기로 버마에 도착한 티모시 키팅 미 태평양 함대 사령관은 버마 군사 정부측에 미군의 구호활동 지원을 제안하는 서한을 가져왔다고 ‘미국의 소리’ 방송에 밝혔습니다.
한편 국제적십자의 구호물자 수송 선박이 어제 버마 이라와디 삼각주에서 사고로 침몰했습니다. 유럽연합은 버마에 대한 구호활동을 강화할 방법을 논의하기 위해 내일 긴급회의를 연다고 밝혔습니다.

A U.S. military cargo plane loaded with tons of aid has landed in Rangoon.
The unarmed C-130 aircraft was carrying water, mosquito nets and blankets from an air base in Thailand. The flight also brought the commander of the U.S. Naval Forces in the Pacific and other U.S. officials to Burma.
It is the first U.S. aid flight that Burma's military government has allowed to enter the country since Cyclone Nargis struck 10 days ago.
Admiral Timothy Keating tells VOA that he is carrying a letter with him to Burma's leading generals, offering the help of U.S. military ships, helicopters, and airplanes.
Admiral Keating says the U.S. military could help supply Burma with 91-thousand kilograms of relief goods each day.
Henrietta Fore, the head of the U.S. Agency for International Development was accompanied Admiral Keating on the flight.
The European Union announced today it plans to hold an urgent meeting Tuesday to discuss ways to beef up aid to Burma. The EU also urged the Burmese government to let more relief workers in.
