오바마 의원은 14일 미 동부 펜실베이니아에서 철강 노조원들과 만나 이같이 말했습니다. 펜실베이니아에서는 오는 22일 민주당의 다음 예비선거가 치러질 예정입니다.
오바마 의원은 중국이 더 이상 자국의 환율을 인위적으로 조정할 수 있게 해서는 안된다며 이는 미국 근로자들과 시장을 불리하게 만든다고 말했습니다. 오바마 의원은 또 최근 몇년간 미국에서는 생산직 일자리 3백 만개 이상이 사라졌다고 말했습니다.
한편, 오바마 의원의 경쟁후보인 힐러리 클린턴 뉴욕 주 상원의원은 같은 노조원들에게 미국은 중국과 중국의 불공정한 무역관행에 당당히 맞설 대통령이 필요하다고 말했습니다. 또 조지 부시 미국 대통령이 베이징 올림픽 개막식을 불참할 것을 재차 촉구했습니다.

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama says he will get tough with China on trade issues, telling a crowd of unionized steelworkers he would threaten to limit China's access to U.S. markets if necessary.
Obama was speaking in Pennsylvania, where the Democratic party holds its next nomination contest on April 22nd.
The Illinois senator told the audience in the city of Pittsburgh that China should no longer be allowed to manipulate its currency, which he says puts American workers and markets at a disadvantage. Obama said in recent years, the United States has seen more than three million high-quality manufacturing jobs disappear.
Later, Democratic rival Hillary Clinton addressed the same audience, saying the United States needs a president who will stand up to China and its unfair trade practices. She also repeated her call to President Bush to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.
