U.S. Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton has revived her presidential campaign with crucial primary wins, while Republican Senator John McCain has capped a remarkable comeback to secure his party's nomination.
Clinton halted rival Senator Barack Obama's 12-contest winning streak with her victories Tuesday in the delegate-rich states of Texas and Ohio, as well as in (the small northeastern state of) Rhode Island. Obama won Vermont -- the state where results were first announced.
The former first lady told supporters in Columbus, Ohio, that her fight for the Democratic presidential nomination is going strong. She noted that no candidate in recent history, Democrat or Republican, has won the White House without winning Ohio.
Obama told his supporters in San Antonio, Texas, that he expects to be the Democratic Party nominee. He still leads Clinton in the number of delegates needed to secure their party's nomination.
McCain swept all four states Tuesday, clinching the nomination in a stunning reversal several months after his campaign nearly collapsed. Fresh from those victories, McCain is to visit the White House today (Wednesday) for an endorsement from President Bush.
