이번 공격에 앞서 이 날 남와지리스탄 지역에서 이슬람 무장단체들과 충돌이 발생해 병사 한 명이 사망했습니다. 또 다른 병사 4명은 무장병력들이 북와지리스탄의 군사 기지에 로켓을 발사해 부상했습니다.
최근 아프가니스탄과의 국경 지역인 파키스탄 부족 지역에서 폭력 사태가 확산되고 있습니다. 이 지역은 무장단체 알카에다와 탈레반의 성지로 알려져 있습니다.
Pakistani intelligence officials say a missile strike on a suspected militant hideout in the volatile North Waziristan region has killed at least 12 people.
The officials (speaking on condition of anonymity) say the attack occurred early today (Tuesday) in Khushali Torikhel, a village in the tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
Neither the Pakistani military nor government has officially commented on the attack.
It is not clear who fired the missile, but some aerial attacks along the border in the past have been attributed to U.S.-led coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Both Pakistan and the United States routinely deny such operations.
In neighboring South Waziristan, a soldier was killed today in a clash with Muslim militants.
In recent months, violence has spread in Pakistan's tribal area near the Afghan border, which is believed to be a sanctuary for al-Qaida and Taliban militants.
