아프간 내무부 대변인은 15일 자살폭탄 조끼와 수류탄, 소총 등으로 무장한 탈레반 의심분자들이 자행한 이 날 테러로 미국 시민 1명과 노르웨이 기자 1명, 필리핀인 호텔 직원 1명, 경호원 여러 명이 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
경찰은 이 날 용의자 2명을 체포했다고 밝혔습니다.
탈레반 측은 이번 테러가 자신들의 소행이라고 밝혔습니다. 과거 탈레반은 서방 국가 시민이 아니라 주로 서방국과 아프간 측 정부 보안 요원들에게 공격을 가했었습니다.
반기문 유엔 사무총장은 이번 테러가 사고가 발생한 호텔에서 회담을 준비 중이었던 노르웨이 외무부장관을 목표로 한 테러라는 의혹을 제기했습니다.
젠 스톨테버그 노르웨이 총리는 이번 테러는 무고한 시민에 대한 용인할 수 없는 공격이라며, 이번 테러가 아프가니스탄에 대한 노르웨이의 협력을 저해하지 않을 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
Officials in Afghanistan say the death toll from Monday's commando-style attack at a luxury hotel in the capital, Kabul, has risen to eight.
Police said today (Tuesday) that they have arrested two suspects following the assault on the heavily-guarded hotel, which is frequented by foreigners and diplomats.
An Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman and foreign officials confirmed that one U.S. citizen, a Philippine employee at the hotel, and a Norwegian journalist were among the dead, along with several hotel security guards.
Officials say the attackers wore suicide vests and police uniforms. They were also armed with grenades and rifles.
One assailant blew himself up and the others threw grenades and fired guns. Hotel guards shot dead another militant.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has suggested that Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere, who was preparing for a meeting at the Serena Hotel, was the target of the gunmen.
Stoere was unharmed, but Norwegian officials said today he has decided to cut his visit short. He is scheduled to meet with Afghan President Hamid Karzai today before leaving.
