스리랑카 북쪽 지역에서 정부군과 타밀 호랑이 반군간 일련의 충돌이 벌어져 반군 11명이 사망했다고 정부군 관계관들이 밝혔습니다.
이들 관계관은 반군 8명은 23일 자프나 반도에 있는 반군 병영들에 대한 기습작전에서 사망했으며 나머지 3명은 북부 바부니야 지역에서 발생한 또다른 충돌에서 사망했다고 전했습니다.
앞서 22일 정부군은 군 병력이 서북부 마나르 지역에 있는 반군의 한 주요 기지를 장악하는 동안 반군 8명과 정부군 병사 1명이 각각 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
그러나 반군은 정부군의 공격을 저지해 17명의 정부군 병사 사망자와 54명의 부상자를 냈다고 주장했습니다.
하지만 양측의 주장은 모두 독자적으로 확인되지 않고 있습니다.
The Sri Lankan military says troops have killed 11 Tamil Tiger rebels during a series of clashes in the country's north.
Military officials say eight Tigers were killed today (Sunday) during a raid on rebel bunkers in the Jaffna peninsula. Officials say three more rebels were killed during separate clashes in northern Vavuniya province.
On Saturday, the Sri Lankan military says eight rebels and one soldier were killed when troops captured a key rebel position in the northwestern district of Mannar.
However, rebels say they thwarted the assault, killing 17 soldiers and wounding 54. The rebels added that three of their fighters were killed during the clash.
None of the claims could be independently verified.
