파키스탄 당국은 21일 이슬람 최대 명절인 '희생제'가 열린 북서부 지역의 이슬람 사원에서 자살차량 폭탄테러가 발생해 적어도 50명이 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
차르사다에 위치한 아프타브 세르파오 파키스탄 전 내무장관 자택 인근의 사원에서 발생한 이 날 테러로 수십 명이 부상했다고, 당국이 밝혔습니다.
지역 경찰에 따르면, 세르파오 전 장관과 그의 아들 뒤의 기도자 행렬에서 자살폭탄 테러 용의자가 폭탄을 터뜨렸습니다. 대변인에 따르면 세르파오 전 장관과 아들은 무사히 빠져나왔습니다.
세르페오 전 장관은 페르베즈 무샤라프 파키스탄 대통령의 측근으로 다음 달 총선에 출마할 계획입니다. 세르페오 전 장관은 8개월 전 차르사다에서 열린 정당 집회에서 발생한 자살폭탄 테러로 부상한 바 있습니다.
무샤라프 대통령은 이 날 테러에 대해 비난하며 보안과 정보 담당국에 주모자에 대한 조사를 지시했습니다.
Pakistani officials say at least 50 people have been killed in a suicide bombing at a mosque in the restive northwest, during prayers for the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival.
Officials say dozens more were wounded in the blast that took place (today / Friday) at the mosque inside the residential compound of former interior minister, Aftab Sherpao, in Charsadda -- a district in North West Frontier Province.
Local police say the attacker blew himself up in a row of worshippers behind Sherpao, who escaped unhurt.
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf condemned the attack and directed security and intelligence agencies to track down the masterminds.
It was the second attempt on the life of Sherpao -- an ally of President Musharraf, and a candidate in next month's parliamentary election. He was wounded in a suicide attack on his party's gathering in Charsadda in April.
