이라크 경찰 당국은 국제 테러 단체 알 카에다 요원들로 의심되는 무장 분자들이 바그다드 북부 의 한 시아파 마을을 급습해 최소한 12명이 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
당국은 위험지역인 디얄라주의 드웰라 마을에서 발생한 이 공격으로 사망한 피해자들가운데는 여성과 어린이들도 있었다고 말했습니다.
무장 분자들은 여러채의 주택을 불태웠으며, 최소한 10명의 마을주민들이 부상당했습니다.
이번 공격은 11월 이라크 민간인 사망자 수가, 2006년 초, 사마라시에 있는 시아파 사원폭탄 테러를 시작으로 일련의 살상이 발생한 이래 최저치를 기록했다는 이라크 정부의 새로운 발표와 때를 같이해 발생했습니다.
지난달에는 이라크 민간인 최소한 537명이 목숨을 잃었습니다.
한편 미군당국은 미군병사 1명이 30일 바쿠바 시에서 폭발로 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
Iraqi police say at least 12 people are dead after suspected al-Qaida militants raided a Shi'ite village north of Baghdad today (Saturday).
Authorities say women and children were among those killed in the attack on the village of Dwelah, located in the volatile province of Diyala. The militants burned down several homes in the raid, and wounded at least 10 other villagers.
The attack coincided with the release of a new Iraqi government report showing that the number of civilians killed in November fell to the lowest toll since early 2006, when the bombing of a Shi'ite mosque in Samarra set off a wave of sectarian killings.
At least 537 Iraqi civilians were killed last month.
In other news, the U.S. military says one of its soldiers was killed Friday in an explosion on Baquba.
