유엔은 이스라엘이 요르단강 서안에 설치한 분리장벽을 비판하는 보고서를 제출했습니다.
유엔의 인권담당 부서는 최근 발간한 보고서를 통해 이스라엘 정부가 설치한 분리 장벽으로 인해 현지 주민 3만여명 가운데 18%가 자기 땅에 접근하지 못하고 있다고 밝혔습니다. 이 보고서는 또 팔레스타인 주민들이 아파도 병원을 갈 수없는 실정이라고 지적했습니다.
이스라엘 정부 대변인은 이 보고서가 팔레스타인의 견해만 반영한 일방적인 내용만 담고 있다며 분리장벽은 테러분자의 자살 공격을 막기위해 조성한 것이라고 말했습니다.
이스라엘은 지난 2002년부터 팔레스타인 무장요원들의 자폭공격을 막기 위한 것이라며 요르단강 서안 지역에 유대인과 팔레스타인인 거주지를 분리하는 총 680㎞의 장벽을 설치했습니다.
앞서 국제사법재판소는 지난 2004년 7월 장벽건설이 국제법에 위반된다고 판결한 바있습니다.

The United Nations has criticized Israel's separation barrier in the West Bank.
In a report, the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said only 18 percent of the 30-thousand farmers who are cut off from their land because of the barrier have been issued Israeli permits, allowing them access to their fields.
The United Nations also cited other hardships for the Palestinians, including difficulties in obtaining medical care.
Israeli spokesman Mark Regev says the report is one-sided and does not take into account Israeli security. He says the barrier has been extremely effective in preventing Palestinian suicide attacks in Israel.
Israel began constructing the barrier in 2002 after dozens of Palestinian suicide attacks. The International Court of Justice ruled in 2004 that the barrier in the West Bank violates international law and must be dismantled.
Palestinians charge that the barrier is a land grab.
