Israeli officials say Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have agreed to set up negotiating teams to work on key issues between the two sides.
Israeli officials also say Mr. Olmert has agreed to recommend the release of some Palestinian prisoners as a goodwill gesture for the upcoming Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Mr. Olmert and Mr. Abbas met today (Monday) in Jerusalem to discuss guidelines for a U.S.-sponsored international peace conference in November. It was their third meeting in five weeks.
An aide to Mr. Abbas (Nimer Hamad) says the Palestinians want Israel to go beyond promises and to make concrete agreements in writing.
In July, President Bush called for an international peace conference in an attempt to re-energize the peace process, but the specific agenda for the gathering remains unclear.
