파키스탄은 20일 만일 인도가 핵실험을 실시한다면 자신들도 핵실험 중단 결정을 재고할 것이라고 말했습니다.
파키스탄 외무부의 아슬람 대변인은 이날 기자들에게 인도의 핵실험 재개는 파키스탄뿐만 아니라 전세계 모든 나라들의 우려사항이 될 것이라고 말했습니다.
파키스탄은 또 최근 호주가 파키스탄에게 우라늄을 팔기로 결정했다는 소식에도 우려를 표했습니다. 파키스탄은 호주의 이 같은 결정이 남아시아에서 핵무기 경쟁을 불러일으킬 소지가 있다고 설명했습니다.
이에 앞서 인도 정부는 지난 16일 자신들이 핵실험을 실시할 권리가 있다고 말했습니다. 인도의 무케르지 외무장관은 최근 체결한 미국-인도 민간 핵협정에는 인도가 핵실험을 하지 않겠다는 조항이 없다며 국익을 위해 핵실험을 할 수 있다고 말했습니다.
인도와 파키스탄은 1998년 핵실험을 실시했지만 그 이후 핵실험을 자제해 왔습니다. 인도와 파키스탄은 1947년 독립이래 모두 세차례 전쟁을 치렀습니다.

Pakistan says it will reconsider its ban on nuclear testing if India were to conduct a test.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told reporters today (Monday) any resumption of nuclear tests by India should be a concern to the entire international community -- not just Pakistan.
India has said a recent civilian nuclear deal with the United States does not prevent it from conducting nuclear tests.
Pakistan also expressed concern over Australia's plans to sell uranium to India, warning it could spark a nuclear arms race in South Asia.
India and Pakistan both conducted nuclear tests in 1998, but neither side has tested since then.
The historic rivals have fought three wars since their independence in 1947.
