피랍 열흘째인 28일 새로 구성된 아프간 정부 협상단과 탈레반 무장세력간에 한국인 인질 석방을 위한 협상이 이뤄졌지만, 별다른 성과를 거두지 못했습니다.
아프간 정부 협상단 대표인 와히둘라 무자디디는 “오늘 협상에서도 결과를 이끌어내지는 못했다”며, “그러나 우리는 탈레반과 계속 접촉하고 있으며, 29일에 협상이 재개될 것”이라고 말했습니다.
한편, 한국인 인질 22명 가운데 여성 한명이 28일, 로이터통신과 전화통화를 갖고 인질사태의 조속한 해결을 호소했습니다. 이 여성은 조직원 소유의 휴대전화를 이용해 로이터통신과 통화했는데, 영어로 “우리는 피곤하고 이곳저곳 이동하고 있다”면서 “어디로 가는지 모르겠다”고 말했습니다. 이 여성은 “너무 두렵다”면서 탈레반이 한 명씩 죽이겠다고 위협하고 있다고 말했습니다.
소식통은 전날 아프간에 도착해 활동에 들어간 백종천 청와대 통일외교안보정책실장도 아직 하미드 카르자이 대통령을 만나지 못했지만, 29일중에는 면담이 성사될 것으로 보인다고 말했습니다.
한국의 천호선 청와대 대변인은 백 특사가 27일과 28일 현지에서 아프간의 장관급 고위 당국자들과 만나 협력방안을 협의했다면서 카르자이 대통령과는 금명간 만날 것으로 기대된다고 말했습니다.
A team of Afghan mediators consisting of government lawmakers and tribal elders is holding negotiations in Afghanistan's Ghazni province for the release of 22 South Koreans kidnapped by the Taleban 10 days ago.
South Korean special envoy (Baek Jong-chun) is also expected to hold talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai today (Saturday) in Kabul to aid in the efforts.
A Taleban spokesman (Yousuf Ahmadi) said earlier the hostages were still alive, but many were in
poor health.
Negotiators say they are struggling with conflicting demands made by the kidnappers, including the release of several Taleban prisoners, withdrawal of South Korean troops from the country and money from South Korea.
The kidnappers shot and killed the 42-year-old leader of the South Korean Christian aid group earlier this week.
