일본의 아소 다로 외상은 일본 정부는 소형 목선을 타고 지난 2일 일본에 도착한 탈북자 가족이 실제로 난민인지를 판단하기 위해 더 많은 시간이 필요하다고 말했습니다.
아소 외상은 5일, 남자 3명과 여자 1명으로 이루어진 이들 탈북자들이 무장을 하지는 않았다고 말하고, 그러나 자신들이 난민이라는 이들의 주장의 진위 여부는 아직 확실치 않다고 덧붙였습니다.
현재 이들 탈북자들이 억류돼 있는 일본 북부 아오모리 현 경찰은 6일까지 구금기간을 연장할 수 있도록 법원의 승인을 받았다고 말했습니다.
지난 2일 아오모리 현 후카우라 항에 도착한 이들 탈북자들은 극도의 빈곤을 피해 북한을 탈출했고 한국으로 가려고 했다고 조사관들에게 말했습니다.
그러나, 탈북자들이 타고 온 소형 목선에서 일반 북한 주민들이 감당할 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 비싼 항해용 나침반과 디젤 연료가 발견됐기 때문에 이들의 주장에 의문이 제기되고 있습니다.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso says the country needs more time to determine whether four North Koreans who landed in Japan by boat are actually refugees.
He said today (Tuesday) the three men and one woman were not armed, but the authenticity of their refugee claim is unclear.
Police in the northern prefecture of Aomori, where the North Koreans are being held, said a court has approved an extension of their custody until Wednesday.
The North Koreans landed at Fukaura port in Aomori on May 27th. They told investigators they left extreme poverty back home and were headed to South Korea.
Their story is in question because they were found with a compass for navigational purposes and diesel fuel, which is far more expensive than most North Koreans can afford.
