북대서양조약기구, NATO 관리들은 아프가니스탄 남부에서 무장분자들이 NATO 헬리곱터 한대를 격추해 미군 5명과 영국군 1명 그리고 캐나다군인 1명 등 연합군 7명이 사망했다고 밝혔습니다.
관리들은 이 수송 헬리곱터가 어제 30일 오후 헬만드주의 카자키 마을 근처에 추락했다고 말했습니다.
이와는 별도로 아프가니스탄 국방부는 아프가니스탄과 나토 지상군이 전투기의 지원을 받으며 31일 헬만드 주 상진구역에서 탈레반 목표물들을 공격했다고 말했습니다.
이번 공격으로 적어도 20명의 탈레반이 사망하거나 부상당했다고 국방부는 밝혔습니다.
한편 탈레반 내무부는 탈레반이 남부 자불지방에서 16명의 아프가니스탄 경찰을 사살했다고 말했습니다.

NATO officials say enemy fire may be responsible for bringing down a NATO helicopter in southern Afghanistan, killing seven troops -- five Americans, one Briton and one Canadian.
The officials say the Chinook transport helicopter crashed late Wednesday in a hostile area in Helmand province, near the town of Kajaki. The Taleban says it shot down the helicopter.
In other fighting, Afghanistan's Defense Ministry says Afghan and NATO ground troops backed by warplanes attacked Taleban targets today (Thursday) in the Sangin district of Helmand. The ministry says at least 20 Taleban were killed or wounded.
Elsewhere, the Afghan Interior Ministry says Taleban militants killed 16 Afghan policemen today in an ambush on a convoy in the southern province of Zabul.
The Interior Ministry also says Afghan police killed 10 militants and wounded 15 in a battle in the western province of Farah late Wednesday.
