키팅 제독은 이날 미국의 소리 기자에게 자신은 중국이 인공위성 요격계획을 추진하지 않기를 희망한다고 밝혔습니다.
키팅 제독은 중국의 1차 위성요격실험으로 우주에는 다른 인공위성에 위험을 줄 수 있는 많은 파편들이 발생했다고 말했습니다.

U.S. and Chinese military commanders meeting in Beijing have argued about the implications of China's anti-satellite weapon program.
The commander of U.S. forces in the Pacific, Admiral Timothy Keating, told Chinese General Guo Boxiong that China sent a "confusing" message to the world when it destroyed one of its own satellites in January.
In an interview with VOA, Keating said he hopes China does not pursue the program. He noted that the first test created debris in space that may pose a risk to other satellites.
Guo called the test a normal scientific experiment. He said he did not understand why the reaction to it has been, in his words, so "dramatic."
Keating told VOA that, in his view, the anti-satellite test was not purely scientific - it also had military implications.
