미국 국무부의 존 네그로폰테 부장관이 3일 중국 베이징에 도착했습니다.
네그로폰테 부장관은 사흘 동안의 중국 방문 중에 리자오싱 중국 외교부장을 비롯한 고위 당국자들을 만나, 북한 핵 문제와 다른 지역 현안들을 논의할 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.
중국은 지난 2일 일본에서 시작된 네그로폰테 부장관의 동북아시아 3개국 순방의 두 번째 방문국입니다.
네그로폰테 부장관은 도쿄 방문 중, 대 북한 제재를 해제하는데는 시간이 걸릴 것이라고 말하면서, 또한 이 문제는 북한이 핵 무기 계획을 포기하겠다는 지난 달의 약속을 이행하는지 여부에 달릴 것이라고 덧붙였습니다.
한편, 한국의 송민순 외교부장관은 북한은 핵 계획 종식 약속을 이행해야만 2.13 합의에 따른 보상을 받을 수 있을 것이라고 말했습니다.
미국을 방문중인 송 장관은 2일 워싱턴에서, 국제사회는 북한에게 핵 무기가 없어야 더 안전할 것이라는 점을 납득시키기 위해 노력해야 한다고 말했습니다.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte is in China for talks expected to focus on North Korea's nuclear program and other regional issues.
Negroponte, who arrived in Beijing today (Saturday), is to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing and other top officials during his three-day visit.
The stop in China is the second leg of a trip that began Friday in Japan. While in Tokyo, he cautioned that lifting sanctions against North Korea will take time, and will depend on Pyongyang's compliance with promises it made last month to abandon its nuclear weapons program.
On Friday, South Korea's foreign minister said North Korea will reap the rewards of the recent disarmament agreement only if Pyongyang carries out its promise to end its nuclear program.
Song Min-soon said in Washington that the international community must work to convince the North that it will be more secure without nuclear arms.
