유엔 아동기금 유니세프는 영국과 미국이 부유한 나라들 가운데 아동 복지가 최악인 나라들이라고 지적했습니다.
유니세프는 21개 경제 선진국 어린이들의 삶의 질을 측정하는 약 40개의 지표들을 검토한 새로운 보고서를 14일 발표한 가운데, 영국이 21위로 최하위에 올랐고, 미국은 20위를 기록했습니다.
영국과 미국은 건강과 안전, 위기 요소, 관계, 그리고 어린이들의 복지에 대한 인식, 어린이들의 물질적 복지 등의 6개 범주 가운데 5개 범주에서 꼴지에서 3번째 안에 포함됐습니다. 두 나라는 단지 교육 부문에서만 그보다 나은 평가를 받았습니다.
이번 연구에서 북유럽 국가들이 상위권에 포함된 가운데, 네덜란드와 스웨덴이 1,2위를 차지했습니다.
한편, 보고서는 국내총생산 GDP와 아동 복지 사이에 직접적인 연관은 없다고 밝히면서, 체코의 경우 프랑스 보다 전체적으로 높은 점수를 받았다고 설명했습니다.

A new report by the United Nations Children's Fund ranks Britain and the United States as the worst among wealthy countries for the well-being of children.
The U.N. agency's report, released today (Wednesday), looked at around 40 indicators to gauge the lives of children in 21 economically advanced nations. The United States was ranked 20th, while Britain was last.
Britain and the United States were in the bottom third of the rankings for five of the six categories -- health and safety, risk-taking, relationships, young people's own sense of well-being and children's material well-being. Education was the only category where both countries remained above the bottom third.
Child well-being was rated highest in Northern Europe, with the Netherlands and Sweden leading the way.
The report said no direct link was found between gross domestic product and children's well-being. The Czech Republic, for example, received a higher overall ranking than France.
