미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은 미국과 유럽연합, 유엔, 러시아 등 이른바 ‘중동평화 중재4인방’ 회담을 이번 달 워싱턴에서 가질 계획이라고 발표했습니다.
독일을 방문중인 라이스 장관은 17일 베를린에서 프랑크-발터 슈타인마이어 독일 외무장관과 회담을 가진 후 이같이 밝혔습니다.
라이스 장관은 ‘중동평화 중재 4인방’은 이스라엘과 팔레스타인간의 평화협상 재개 문제를 논의하기 위해 오는 29일 시작주에 회담을 가질 예정이라고 말했습니다.
라이스 장관은 독일 방문에 앞서 앞으로 몇 주안에 이스라엘의 에후드 올메르트 총리, 그리고 마흐무드 압바스 팔레스타인 자치정부 수반과 3자회동을 가질 계획이라고 밝힌 바 있습니다.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has announced plans for a meeting in Washington of the Middle East Quartet of peace-makers.
Rice made the announcement after talks in Berlin this (Wednesday) evening with Germany's foreign minister (Frank-Walter Steinmeier).
Rice said the Quartet -- the U.S., European Union, United Nations, and Russia -- would meet the week of January 29th to discuss Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts.
Germany, which currently holds the E.U. presidency, has been pushing for a revitalized role for the Quartet.
Rice is discussing with German officials her just-concluded tour of the Middle East.
Rice announced during her tour that she would hold a three-way meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in coming weeks in an effort to re-start the peace process.
