(Eng)

Belarus says it has reached a compromise deal with Russia to end the dispute that has disrupted the flow of Russian crude oil to Belarus and western Europe.

Speaking today (Wednesday), Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky said a deal was reached after his government revoked a new oil transit tax imposed last week on Russian crude passing through the Druzbha (Friendship) pipeline.

Russia stopped pumping oil through the pipeline on Monday, after Belarus began siphoning 79-thousand tons of oil meant for Europe as a form of tax collection. The cut-off halted deliveries to Poland, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Russian news agencies say Moscow will begin pumping as soon as Belarus finishes forwarding the siphoned oil to European terminals. It was not clear when the transfer would be completed.

In Slovakia, officials said oil to their pipelines should resume later today.
