유엔 산하 세계보건기구 (WHO)는 베트남 남부 지역에서 발병한 조류 독감의 정확한 원인 규명을 위해 전문가들을 현지에 파견하길 원하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
WHO와 유엔 식량 농업기구 (UNFAO)는 지난달 베트남 남부 3 곳에서 발병한 조류 독감의 조사를 위해 베트남 정부의 입국 허가를 모색하고 있다고 말했습니다.
베트남 동물 보건 당국은 치명적인 조류독감 바이러스인 H5N1 의 확산을 막기 위한 노력으로 조류 독감 발병 지역내 2만 4천마리의 가금류를 살처분 했다고 말했습니다.
베트남에서는 정부의 민첩한 대응 조치에도 불구하고 농민들이 조류독감 발병 사실을 당국에 보고하는 데 주저하고 있어 방역 조치가 자주 지연됐었습니다.

U.N. agencies say they want to send experts to Vietnam to identify the source of bird flu outbreaks in the country's south.
The World Health Organization and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization are seeking permission from the Hanoi government to investigate the December outbreaks in three southern provinces (Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, and An Giang).
Vietnamese animal health authorities say they have destroyed 24 thousand birds in the region in an effort to stop the H5N1 flu virus from spreading.
Although Vietnam has a record of acting quickly to stop outbreaks of the deadly virus, containment efforts were slow this time because farmers were reluctant to inform the government.
The H5N1 virus can kill thousands of birds in a few days if unchecked. It also can infect humans and is responsible for more than 150 human deaths worldwide since 2003.
