Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has met with the chief of staff of the U.S. army to discuss ways to boost military cooperation in the troubled region (South Asia).
U.S. General Peter Schoomaker is in Pakistan today (Friday) on an official visit to discuss ties between the armed forces of the two nations.
The United States says the presence al-Qaida, Taleban and sectarian elements in Pakistan poses a potential danger -- especially along the porous border with Afghanistan. Pakistan is a key ally of the United States in its war on terror.
On Tuesday, Pakistan said it would build a fence and plant mines along parts of its border with Afghanistan, in an apparent move to stave off criticism it is not doing enough to stop cross-border insurgent attacks.
But Afghanistan has denounced the plan saying it will do little to prevent terrorism.
