인도는 미국과 인도간 민간핵기술협력협정 체결에도 불구하고 추가 핵실험 실시를 위한 선택을 열어 놓을 것이라고 프라잡 무케르지 인도 외무장관이 말했습니다.
무케르지 장관은 19일, 발표한 성명을 통해 인도는 인도의 새로운 핵개발 계획에 대한 외부의 사찰이나 간섭을 용납하지 않을 것이라고 밝히면서 이같이 말했습니다.
인도의 만모한 싱 총리는 미국-인도간 민간핵기술협력 협정에 18일, 죠지 부시 대통령이 서명한 가운데 이 협정체결에 대한 야당의 비판을 일축했습니다.
싱 총리는 핵무기를 실험하지 않겠다는 인도측 약속이 인도의 주권을 손상시키지 않을 것이라고 강조하면서 이같이 일축했습니다.

India's foreign minister says his country will keep its options open to conduct more nuclear tests, despite a landmark cooperation pact with the United States to allow New Dehli access to civilian nuclear technology.
In a statement issued today (Tuesday), Pranab Mukherjee said India will not allow external scrutiny or interference with New Delhi's nuclear program.
Opposition leaders have criticized the nuclear accord, saying it is against India's national interests.
India Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has rejected criticism of the deal, which U.S. President Bush signed into law Monday. Mr. Singh argued that India's pledge not to test nuclear weapons will not compromise his country's sovereignty.
In an interview with VOA (Hindi service on Monday), U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher said the deal is a civilian accord, and does not involve India's military nuclear program. Boucher said it was a good deal for India, the United States and the international effort to stop the proliferation of nuclear weapons.
