프랑스는 앞으로 몇주안에 아프가니스탄에 주둔중인 자국의 특수부대 병력 200명 가량을 철수시킬 계획이라고 발표했습니다.
프랑스 국방부는 아프간 동부지역에서 알-카에다와 탈레반 세력에 맞서 싸우면서 오사마 빈 라덴 색출작업에 참여하고 있는 자국군 병력을 철수시킬 것이라고 말했습니다. 1천 5백 여명의 다른 프랑스 군 병력은 아프간에 계속 주둔할 것으로 보입니다.
탈레반 저항세력들은올해 아프간 정부와 서방 동맹국가들에 맞선 전투 속에 북대서양조약기구, 나토군에 대한 공격을 강화해 왔습니다.
앞서 17일 나토 관계관들은 아프간 동부 지역에서 한 자살폭탄공격범이 미군 차량대열로 돌진한 뒤 자폭해 아프간 민간인 한 명이 숨지고 두 명이 다쳤다고 전했습니다.

France has announced it will withdraw about 200 members of its military special forces from Afghanistan in the next few weeks.
The French defense minister (Michele Alliot-Marie) said troops would leave their post in eastern Afghanistan where they have been involved in the fight against al Qaida and Taleban forces and in the search for Osama bin Laden. More than 15-hundred other French forces are expected to remain in the country.
Taleban insurgents have stepped up attacks on NATO and Afghan soldiers this year in their fight against the Kabul government and its Western allies.
Early today (Sunday), NATO officials said a suicide bomber drove up to an American convoy in eastern Afghanistan and detonated his vehicle, killing one Afghan civilian and wounding two others.
