25개 각국 정부들과 유럽 집행위원회는 아이슬란드의 수도 레이크야빅에서 1일, 아이슬란드 정부의 고래 잡이 재개 결정에 대해 ‘극도의 실망감’을 담은 성명을 현지 외무부에 전달했습니다.
앞서 지난달 10월, 아이슬란드는 멸종위기에 놓인 고래를 보호하기 위해 지난 20년 동안 내려진 국제적인 일시적 정지, 즉 모라토리엄 합의를 무시하고 고래 잡이를 재개한다고 발표했습니다.

Twenty-five nations and the European Commission have delivered a formal protest to the Icelandic government, which says it will defy an international treaty and resume commercial whaling.
The 25 governments and the commission delivered a statement in Reykjavik today (Wednesday) to Iceland's Foreign Ministry, expressing their "extreme disappointment" with the country's decision to hunt whales.
Iceland announced earlier this month that it will resume whaling despite a 20-year-old international moratorium designed to protect the endangered animals.
Iceland's Fisheries Ministry said it would issue licenses to kill nine fin whales and 30 minke whales by August 31st of 2007. It added that whales are plentiful in the North Atlantic.
Norway and Japan -- countries with large maritime populations -- have supported the Icelandic whaling declaration.
