2006년 노벨 평화상 수상자인 방글라데시의 경제학자 무하마드 유너스 씨가 130만 달러의 상금을 자선 사업에 쓰겠다고 밝혔습니다.
유너스 씨는 13일 다카에서 기자들과 만난 자리에서, 상금으로 안과 병원을 세우고, 가난한 사람들을 위한 저가의 건강 식품을 만들겠다고 말했씁니다.
노르웨이 노벨 위원회는 13일 유너스 씨와 그라민 은행의 빈곤 퇴치 노력을 인정해 평화상 공동 수상자로 발표했습니다.
노벨 위원회는 특히 유너스 씨가 그라민 은행을 통해 다양한 문화와 문명을 초월해서 빈곤층 여성들의 삶을 향상시킬 수 있는 소규모 신용 체계를 개발했다고 말했습니다.
한편 유엔의 개발도상국 그룹은 빈곤 문제 타계 노력을 벌여온 이들의 노벨상 수상을 축하했습니다.

The 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, Bangladeshi economist Muhammad Yunus, says he will donate his share of the one-point-three million-dollar prize money to good causes.
Yunus told reporters in Dhaka Friday he will use the money for a project to set up an eye hospital, and another to produce healthy low-cost food for the poor.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee announced the Peace Prize Friday in Oslo. Yunus and his Grameen (Rural) Bank jointly won the prize for their efforts to create economic and social opportunities for poor people.
The committee said Yunus has developed micro-credit into an important instrument in the struggle against poverty across cultures and civilizations, particularly in helping poor women to advance their lives.
The United Nations, development groups and countries in all continents have hailed the new laureate for his work in helping the poor escape poverty.
