알-카에다 테러분자들은 지난 2001년 9월 11일 넉대의 여객기들을 공중 납치해 이들 중 두 대를 110층짜리 세계무역센터 건물로 돌진시켜 이들 건물을 붕괴시켰습니다.
한편 딕 체니 부통령은 10일 NBC-TV 에 출연해 미국은 알-카에다에 막대한 피해를 입혀왔으며 알-카에다 지도자 오사마 빈 라덴에 대한 색출 작업은 미국의 최우선 과제로 계속되고 있다고 말했습니다.
미국의 콘돌리자 라이스 국무장관은 이날 폭스 텔레비전 방송에 출연해 미국은 9-11 테러 공격 이후 더 안전해 지고 있으며 정보 활동은 더욱 강력해지고 있다고 말했습니다.

President Bush is taking part in two days of somber events to mark the fifth anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States.
He and first lady Laura Bush are to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony today (Sunday) at the site in New York City known as "ground zero," where the World Trade Center towers once stood.
Al-Qaida terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners on September 11th, 2001, and used two of them to take down the 110-story buildings.
Vice President Dick Cheney, speaking on NBC television, said the United States has done enormous damage to al-Qaida, and finding al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden continues to be a top priority.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told Fox News that the United States is safer and intelligence is much stronger since the attacks.
Monday, the president and first lady will take part in ceremonies at the sites where the two other hijacked airliners crashed -- a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon just outside Washington.
Nearly three-thousand people died in the attacks five years ago.
