북대서양조약기구, 나토군은 아프가니스탄 남부 지역에서 저항분자 소탕작전을 벌여 탈레반 잔당 약 200 명을 살해했다고 아프가니스탄 주둔 나토군이 밝혔습니다.
아프가니스탄 칸다하르성의 탈레반 거점지역인 판즈와이 지구에서 2일 새벽부터 메두사로 명칭이 붙여진 소탕작전을 전개했습니다.
이 작전에서 나토군 세 명이 사망하고 여섯 명이 부상한 것으로 알려졌습니다.
한편, 이날 소탕작전을 지원하던 영국군 정찰기 한 대가 추락해, 탑승했던 영국군 열 네 명, 전원이 사망했습니다. 영국군 당국은 MR2 님로드 정찰기가 칸다하르시 인근 상공에서 기계고장을 일으켜 추락했다고 밝혔습니다.

NATO forces in Afghanistan say some 200 Taleban insurgents and four NATO soldiers have been killed in the first two days of a military operation in the south.
At least six NATO soldiers have been reported wounded in the operation, dubbed Medusa, which started early Saturday. Its aim is to flush out militants from the Taleban stronghold in Panjwayi district of Kandahar province.
A British reconnaissance plane that was flying in support of the operation crashed Saturday, killing all 14 British military personnel on board.
British officials say the Nimrod MR2 aircraft went down near Kandahar city due to mechanical failure.
