남한 정부의 국방부 관리들은 20일 군 관계자 6명이 한국지질자원연구원에 배치돼 핵실험의 폭발로 인한 지진 활동을 감시하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.
관계자들은 남한 정부가 북한의 핵 활동을 24시간 감시하고 있다면서 북한의 지하 핵실험 가능성에 대한 미국 언론의 보도 이전에 감시망이 갖춰졌다고 말했습니다.
한편 남한의 이종석 통일부장관은 지난주 북한의 핵실험과 관련해 증거가 확인된 것은 없다고 밝혔습니다.

South Korea says it is monitoring North Korea's nuclear activities amid reports the reclusive communist state may be preparing to test an atomic bomb.
South Korean defense officials said today (Sunday) six military personnel are stationed at the state-run Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, watching for any seismic activity caused by a test blast.
Officials say South Korea has been monitoring North Korea's nuclear activities 24-hours a day. They said the surveillance was in place before a U.S. television news report (ABC news) that Pyongyang may be preparing an underground nuclear test.
Last week, South Korea's top official on relations with North Korea, Unification Minister Lee Jong-seok, said Seoul has no confirmed evidence of a possible nuclear test.
